Times Square Hotels: The Marriot Marquis Pretty Much Has It All

If you want a breathtaking hotel in the center of the action, with great rooms, and amazing views, check out the Marriot Marquis. It’s a friendly, elegant place, with a professional staff, the famous “View” rotating restaurant up top, and a dazzling and famous Plexiglas elevator system! Chandris, who lives in New York City, strongly recommends it:

I lived in New York City for years before I ever set foot in the Marriott Marquis, but the moment I did I regretted not having gone there sooner. The hotel itself is something to behold from the outside, half hidden from view but sitting right on Times Square (1535 Broadway); the hotel is massive even relative to the other buildings near it. The first experience with the hotel is the elevator system. While a travesty in the past (long, long waits) the new elevator system allows for straight, speedy shots to the higher floors. The elevators offer amazing views: the hotel is built as a hollow square with the elevator tower placed just shy of dead center. Coupled with clear Plexiglas windows, the result is a dazzling view as the cabs whisk up as high as 45 stories (450 feet/137 meters) to the top. Theater goers can stop at the lower floors for the Marquis Theater, which is built into the hotel. The hotel features several premier restaurants including The View, which is one of the only rotating dining experience in the city and sits atop the hotel. Because it is a full-service Marriott branded hotel, in the heart of Manhattan no less, you should expect high quality rooms at high prices. The Marquis does not fail to disappoint on either score: $295 for a standard room is not unheard of, but they often offer discounts and other benefits. The views are stunning. The rooms face either Times Square, up Broadway and Central Park, or down Broadway towards 42nd Street and all its hustle and bustle. The bedding is well above standard, the service is impeccable, and the staff is very, very tourist friendly. While other New York City hotels may have more prestige by virtue of their old age and history, the Marquis is in my view the best of the “younger” generation hotels in New York City.
