I took a City Sights NYC hop on hop off tour bus when I first got to New York City. It was great because I didn’t have to move at a standard pace — I could choose what I wanted to see versus skip, where I wanted to spend the most time, etc. I hopped on for the first point near the Empire State Building. It was fun to be on a double-decker bus – a cool design because it lets you look at all the sights while the guide is talking about them. I took their “All Around Town” tour and booked tickets online. The ticket was valid for 48 hours from when I first boarded the bus, which was great because it helped me save money from buying subway tickets! It took me uptown, downtown, midtown, and I even got to go on a harbor cruise. Probably the coolest thing I saw was Times Square, though it was very, very fast paced! I got run over by the crowds, but I guess that’s New York for you. I loved looking at the tall sky scrapers and thought that the Empire State Building was also a highlight. Seeing street performers in Central Park was cool too, plus Broadway with all the lights was super exciting. I had some delicious food in Chinatown, and bought a great knock-off handbag. I also saw Rockefeller center when the tree was up, which was really exciting. Decorations were up in the stores, so the city looked beautiful – like one big present. I want to go back! I loved the narrated tour that gave cool facts about the city — I felt like I got an insider’s perspective. The guides (I had a few, since I kept hopping on and off) were very knowledgeable and really funny and quirky. They certainly kept my attention. I got a discount for buying my ticket online, so I got it for $49 – definitely worth it in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for a no-stress, no-hassle way to check out New York for the first time.
