French Restaurants In New York: Try Les Sans Culottes!

If you like the French bistro feel, one of the most casual and charming restaurants with this atmosphere – and affordable and delicious food – is Les Sans Culottes. Great portions and traditional French food and atmosphere makes this place unforgettable, so writes Kalico, who says she visits it every time she’s in New York City:

When I visit New York City, I never miss an opportunity to have a meal in Les Sans Culottes at 1085 Second Avenue, at Fifty Seventh Street. I usually stay in a friend’s condo on Fifty Seventh Street near First Avenue when I am in the City. Early one evening about twenty years ago my friend and I were taking a stroll on Fifty Seventh Street when we noticed the restaurant and sauntered in for a meal. It was a lucky happenstance. The atmosphere is casual and charming, definitely reminiscent of a French bistro, and the food is delicious. As a hearty eater, never mindful of calories or my figure, I also appreciate their plentiful servings! Les Sans Culottes is open seven days a week, serving lunch and dinner. You can have their fixed price menu or order a la carte. For lunch you can have two courses for $16.50, $22, or $24, and for dinner you can order three courses for $25, $32 or $35, depending upon which meat or fish entrée you choose. The appetizer portion of the fixed price meal is a meal in itself. They present on the table a huge selection basket of appetizers that includes sausages, pate, salad, and breads. And, of course, what French bistro would be without the essentials such as a wonderful onion soup at $7, or mussels in white cream sauce for $9. Let’s not forget the absolute epitome of a French menu, escargots with parsley, butter and garlic sauce for $8.50. The same goes for their dessert menu, which offers Crème Brulee and Profiteroles au Chocolat. Their house crepe is finished with vanilla ice cream and served with apricot sauce and chocolates. All of these are yummy and memorable. As a matter of fact, the entire dining experience at Les Sans Culottes, including the efficient and polite servers, has been memorable ever since I took that lovely early evening stroll so long ago.
