30 Rockefeller Plaza

In order to fully appreciate how magnificent New York City is, you need to find some beautiful, expansive views of the Big Apple.

Probably my favorite thing I did while on a trip to New York City last year besides walking around and taking in the feel of the city was my trip to 30 Rockefeller Plaza. It really felt like the middle of the city, but without the craziness of Times Square. While at 30 Rock we were able to watch the Ice Skaters and visit the many vendors and shops around the building. After walking around the area some we decided to pay the small amount of money required to go to the top of the Rock. At the top I think I experienced one of the greatest views of the city ever. On one side of the roof I could view The Empire State Building, and on the other side I had a great view of Central Park and the upper part of Manhattan Island. While I did have to pay to get up there, there was a really cool elevator ride that described the history of the building, and once on top I could stay up as long as I liked. I would suggest going up close to sunset to get one of the best views of one of the largest cities in the world. It was fairly easy to get to 30 Rock, since it’s pretty much in the center of the city. Plus, because it’s one of the tallest buildings in the city, it’s easy to see from almost anywhere. We took one of the many subways that stops near the building, and if you’re going to be in town for any amount of time I would suggest getting the extended pass, which will allow you to ride as much as you want in a set number of days. We paid something like $18 for a 6 day pass, and used the pass extensively. 30 Rock was my pick for my favorite thing to do in NYC because it’s the only place that really allows you to view the beauty of NY and fully appreciate the massive scale of the city.
